Are you addicted to fixing? Fixing your food, fixing your relationships, fixing your body, fixing your life…

It’s the dirty little secret of the self help industry. Behind the glossy titles that litter the bookshelves is a tacit understanding:

Something is wrong. You need to fix it.

And since most of us are carrying the collective “not enough/too much/not-the-right-kind” wound, we fall right for it. No wonder it’s an 11 Billion dollar industry.

“Yes! That’s what’s wrong with me! I need to fix that!”

But have you ever noticed that as soon as you “fix” one area, something else becomes the new fixation to fix?

That’s what happened to me at 19 yrs old. All I wanted was boobs.

From age 14, when I’d been publicly shamed on the beach for being flat chested, I’d wanted a boob job.

Having a chest meant everything to me. It meant that I finally didn’t have to work so hard to make my lower half smaller to match my AA cup. It meant that I wouldn’t have to puff and stuff my bras and stress about going to second base with a guy.

It meant I’d finally feel like a woman.

So at age 19, I went under the knife. Insta-boobs. Not over the top boobs. Just proportionate for my frame.

But it was not long before I started obsessing about my thighs.

Those thighs, that I had been covering up since junior high. Those thighs that were covered with cellulite on the front, back and sides. It was so embarrassing. I had to do something about those thighs…

No, I didn’t do lipo, but I did develop a serious addiction to exercise, dieting, stimulants, obsession and trying to control my food.

In short, the fixing frenzy just took me to the next thing to fix.

Because here’s the truth:

You can’t fix yourself free.

You’ll never be able to do it. Because the fixing paradigm doesn’t fit with the freedom paradigm.

So take it from me, if you’re serious about getting free, then ditch the fixing.

Fixing will only lead to more anxiety, obsession and never feeling good enough.

Instead, find out what to do to live free.
